Sometimes when I go to the store and I buy stuff that’s on sale with the thought that I’ll totally use it in a recipe for the blog…..
Then it just sits in the cupboard because I don’t know what to do with it.
That’s what happened when I bought a box of Devil’s Food Cake Mix & Strawberry Cake Mix. They were on sale and I couldn’t resist. We used up the strawberry cake mix for Joe’s birthday. I know, I know… I made my husband a pink cake with white frosting for his birthday. Give me a minute until I stop laughing. Don’t worry, he’s secure enough in his manhood to accept a pink cake. It’s what I had in the house and it needed to be used. He ended up liking it because I hadn’t made a strawberry cake in forever so it all worked out!
But the Devils Food Cake just kept staring me down every time I opened the cupboard. It was sad. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I had to find a recipe that used a cake mix and I was relieved when I found a good looking one over at Sally’s Baking Addiction for Devil’s Food Cake Mix Cookies. It actually looked insanely simple. Like there wasn’t going to be much of a mess (which I really love!).
And since I hadn’t really even thought about Halloween I thought it would be fun to decorate these cookies with Reese’s Pieces and Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips. Killed two birds with 1 stone (or cake mix in this post) and made some yummy cookies with my lonely cake mix and I have my first semi-halloween post!
