Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joe Ingredients
- Sloppy Joe meat
- Mild cheddar cheese
You almost certainly have all the ingredients you need right now to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The Sloppy Joe meat may be all you’re missing. Fortunately, that’s also super easy to make. Serve delicious, saucy, Sloppy Joes one night, and use the leftovers to make meaty grilled cheeses the next!
Grilled Cheese doesn’t have to be just for kids. Elevate the sandwich with a superior bread: use sourdough, multigrain, or your favorite crusty bread. Cheddar cheese may be the norm, but why not try it with Manchego, swiss, or smoked gouda?
How to Make Grilled Cheese Sloppy Joe
FIRST STEP: Heat a skillet over medium heat.
SECOND STEP: Lightly butter bread and put one slice in the pan, butter side down. Add cheese.
THIRD STEP: Allow the cheese to melt slightly and spoon on the sloppy joe meat. Top with cheese and another slice of bread, butter side up.
FOURTH STEP: Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
It was easier to flip the sandwich when the cheese was slightly melted. It keeps the sloppy Joe mixture from spilling out too much.
This would be a great use of leftover sloppy Joe meat!
I used mild cheddar cheese but you could use your favorite.
Slather that bread in butter, if you wish, but maybe try out this trick: mayo. Mayonnaise has a higher smoking point than butter and creates a lovely toasty bread just like butter, but perhaps with a little more grace if you don’t flip it fast enough.
