When I think about making a tuna sandwich, it takes me back to my childhood. It’s something that mom always made for us growing up and I still like to enjoy a good old-fashioned tuna sandwich every so often, just like mom made! The only thing is that she always made it with lots of mayo, pickles and onions, which I love. But now that I’m older I try to make healthier choices and eliminate some of the unhealthy fat where I can.
Since I love avocados, I thought it would be fun to try a heart-healthy tuna avocado salad sandwich on fresh bread straight from the bakery at our local bread shop. I decided to go with whole-grain bread that had tons of goodness and was sweetened with a touch of honey. I paired my Albacore Tuna Salad and fresh bread with lettuce, tomato, and a red onion that was so incredibly flavorful and delicious!
For the actual tuna salad part of the recipe I used one can of StarKist® Albacore Tuna, 1/2 of an avocado, 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, and 1/2 tablespoon chives. I mixed everything together carefully so that I still had a few larger chunks of avocado throughout the tuna salad.
Did you know that StarKist® Albacore Tuna is a flavorful way to make any meal deliciously healthy. It contains at least 12g of protein and 110 mg of omega-3’s per serving. This Albacore Avocado Tuna Salad Sandwich is the perfect lunch option for busy moms that want to eat healthier, or to make for little ones who also need a heart healthy meal.
