Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, then place a wire rack insert into the baking sheet. This will allow the excess fat from the burgers to drip into the pan, allowing the burger’s exterior to get a nice outer crust that is not greasy.
Add the ground beef, mayonnaise, A-1 steak sauce, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Combine together to evenly incorporate all the ingredients being careful not to overmix the meat mixture.
Evenly divide your meat mixture into 6 portions. Shape each portion into a round patty, approximately 3½-4 inches wide x ½ inch thickness, and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. Be sure to leave a little space between each patty so that the hamburger patties bake evenly.
Cook hamburgers in oven 15 minutes, flip over each hamburger patty, and bake for an additional 8-10 minutes. For the last 2-3 minutes, place a slice of American cheese onto the tops of each hamburger and allow the cheese to melt while the hamburgers finish baking.
Once your baked hamburgers have reached an internal temperature of 160°F for well-done, you can remove them from the oven and build your burgers with the optional toppings and serve.
Notes
These hamburger patties will shrink a little, so you should note that a jumbo-sized hamburger bun will be too big for them
I like to use my hands to mix the meat mixture as this helps me to make sure that I am not overworking the meat. This will cause your burger patties to be tough when baked.
A kitchen scale is great for weighing each portion of the meat mixture to ensure that you have equally sized burgers. This makes sure that all the hamburgers bake at the same time.
Oven temperatures vary and may need to be recalibrated periodically to ensure they are accurate. Make sure to keep a close eye on your burgers as the suggested cooking time approaches.
