This easy Hoisin Chicken recipe is the perfect way to feed the masses for Memorial Day!
Memorial Day is just around the corner... and I could not be more excited to welcome summer!
We had what felt like an incredibly long winter in our family.
Between the long, cold days and tons of germs, I am more than ready for the warm air and sunshine that summer brings.
To celebrate the start of summer, I'm thinking it's time to host a backyard barbecue with our family and friends.
Today I'm going to share a delicious Asian inspired grilled chicken recipe with you that you'll absolutely love.
I'm proud to partner with Lee Kum Lee to bring you this idea!
If you've been around The Best Blog Recipes very long, you know that I love Chinese food. It's a favorite cuisine of mine.
If you're looking for recipes using hoisin sauce and chicken, you've found yourself a winner with this idea!
I'm excited to add it to our Memorial Day weekend menu with this tasty pairing.
I have a feeling it will become an often served favorite for our family.
What is Hoisin Sauce?
Hoisin sauce is a thick, fragrant sauce commonly used in Chinese cuisine as a glaze for meat. It can also be used in a stir fry or as a dipping sauce. It's both sweet and salty -- a great marriage of flavors and excellent for elevating your summer meat marinades.
My favorite hoisin sauce to use is from Lee Kum Kee. They offer high quality ingredients that will make any recipe even better! Lee Kum Kee makes a wide range of great-tasting authentic Asian-style sauces and condiments, which are delicious for helping elevate your summer celebrations. They make it easy for people to enjoy authentic, restaurant-quality Asian tastes and flavors at home.
Hoisin Chicken Ingredients
For this recipe, I used four leg quarters, which are legs with the thighs attached. You'll also need Lee Kum Kee Hoisin Sauce, barbecue sauce, soy sauce, garlic powder, ginger, salt and pepper plus green onions for garnish.
You could also use wings, thighs or breasts if you'd like.
It would also be perfect served shredded in lettuce wraps or over rice noodles.
This recipe serves about four to six people -- so you could easily increase the amount and serve a much larger crowd. Perfect for that Memorial Day backyard shindig you're planning. 🙂
How to Cook Hoisin Chicken
I've got great news: you can grill this or bake in the oven. I'm going to tell you how to do both!
How to Cook Hoisin Chicken - On the Grill
To start, remove the skin from each piece of chicken and season with salt and pepper.
Grill over medium heat until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees, approximately 30-40 minutes. You'll only want to flip the chicken once.
In a small bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, barbeque sauce, garlic and ginger powder.
When you remove the chicken from the grill, brush the marinade all over and then garnish with chopped green onion.
I don't suggest adding the marinade before grilling because of the sugar content.
How to Cook Hoisin Chicken - In the Oven
To start, remove the skin from each piece of chicken and season with salt and pepper. Place on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper.
In a small bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, barbeque sauce, garlic and ginger powder.
Brush half of the sauce over both sides of the chicken and lay the chicken meaty side down on the baking sheet.
Place in a preheated 425 degree oven for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, remove pan from the oven and flip chicken over. Brush the rest of the sauce over the chicken and place back in the oven for another 15-20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165.
When the chicken is completely cooked through, remove from oven and garnish with chopped green onion.
I can't get enough of this delicious hoisin chicken.
It's my go to recipe this Memorial Day. I'll be gathering my people and noshing with them -- rejoicing that summer is finally arriving!

Excellent recipe! We really enjoyed it. I also tried the hoisin sauce on salmon and it was good, too. Found your blog quite by accident but will be visiting frequently. Everything looks so good!
