No Churn Cotton Candy Ice Cream
Table of Contents
Cotton candy ice cream takes two amazing treats and combines them in a delicious way! This will be a favorite for kids and kids at heart. Cotton candy flavor without the spun sugar and ice cream without the churning - it simply can’t get easier!
Taking the churning out of making ice cream makes this ice cream recipe so simple. No need for an ice cream machine! Whipping the heavy cream takes the most elbow grease, but that’s what mixers are for. You’ll get more of a workout scooping the ice cream than whipping it up.
Cotton candy ice cream is colorful and fun! Bring the pizazz of a carnival right to your kitchen. All you need are a handful of ingredients and a couple of hours for the ice cream to freeze. Then, scoop the bright confection into sugar or waffle cones or a dish and enjoy the nostalgia of cotton candy in a creamy dessert.
No Churn Cotton Candy Ice Cream Ingredients
- Heavy whipping cream
- Sweetened condensed milk
- Vanilla
- Cotton candy extract
- Red and blue food coloring
- Sprinkles
You can, of course, use any food coloring you wish, however pink and blue are iconic cotton candy colors. The stripes, swirls, or spheres of alternating pink and blue are reminiscent of the long bags of fluffy cotton candy sold at theme parks and sporting events. This colorful ice cream will surely beckon eager eaters.
Sprinkles are optional but add such excitement. Candyfetti would also look amazing, and edible glitter could take this sweet to the next level. Any way you scoop it, served in a cone or sundae style with whipped cream, this cheery dessert will put a smile on your face.
How to Make No Churn Cotton Candy Ice Cream
FIRST STEP: Line a 9x5 loaf pan with parchment paper
SECOND STEP: In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, about 4 minutes. (It goes quicker if you chill the bowl and beaters!)
THIRD STEP: Stir in the vanilla, sweetened condensed milk, and cotton candy extract. You can also use the mixer on low speed and mix until combined.
FOURTH STEP: Take half of the mixture out and place in a medium-size bowl (why mess up two other bowls is my opinion).
FIFTH STEP: In one bowl add 20 drops of red liquid food coloring to the mixture and stir until combined (or add as many drops until it is the color you desire). Gel food coloring needs less. If you use gel put some gel on the end of a toothpick and stir into the mixture. 20 drops got me the pink I wanted.
SIXTH STEP: In the remaining bowl add 25 drops of blue liquid food color and stir to combine. 25 drops of blue got me the blue I wanted. But start with less if you want, you can always add more until you get the color you want.
SEVENTH STEP: In the bottom of the lined loaf pan drop dollops of pink alternating with blue and just adding spoonfuls as you layer and fill the pan. You can then take your spoon and make slight swirls in the mixture if you desire.
EIGHTH STEP: Tap the pan on the table a few times to help the cream settle evenly.
NINTH STEP: Place a piece of cling wrap on top of the ice cream batter letting it rest right on top of the cream. Cover the whole pan with foil.
TENTH STEP: Place in the freezer and freeze for at least 2 hours or overnight.
ELEVENTH STEP: Scoop and serve!! Sprinkles optional!
Cooking Tips
Higher fat content ice cream melts quicker than the lower fat ice creams so have those cups or cones at the ready when it’s time to scoop!
Cotton Candy Flavoring can be found in the baking or candy making sections of most craft stores
Storing this Recipe
Cover the ice cream with plastic wrap touching the surface to prevent ice crystals from forming. Keep the ice cream frozen in an airtight container in the back of your freezer to avoid shifts in temperature that would alter the texture.
