Frozen Hot Chocolate
Table of Contents
Hot chocolate is childhood’s favorite winter beverage. You don’t have to wait for winter to enjoy a frozen hot chocolate though because it is delightful any season. This frozen treat is especially perfect for holidays in temperate zones.
Frozen hot chocolate looks like an elegant dessert, yet no one would guess how simple it is! Chilled glasses give the drink a frosty opacity, which not only keeps the drink cool but adds to the whole presentation, elevating the look and evoking the nostalgia of an ice cream shoppe.
It only takes three ingredients and less than five minutes to whip up this delicious drink. Blend up a batch for a decadent dessert. The recipe is so quick to serve up, you can easily make it for a larger group as well.
Frozen Hot Chocolate Ingredients
- Chocolate milk
- Hot chocolate mix
- Crushed ice
- Whipped topping
- MIniature chocolate chips
This frozen hot chocolate recipe is made extra chocolatey by starting with chocolate milk. You can use any type of chocolate milk you prefer. Dark chocolate almond milk works particularly well, though you may want to decrease the amount of hot chocolate mix.
In place of miniature chocolate chips, you could garnish with chocolate curls made by using a potato peeler to grate a chocolate bar. Mini marshmallows or crushed peppermint candies would also be lovely atop a pile of whipped cream. Additionally, one could add a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce.
How to Make Frozen Hot Chocolate
FIRST STEP: Chill two glasses in the freezer for at least 5 minutes. (This step is optional, but it helps keep the drink cool and it looks frosty good!)
SECOND STEP: Pour the milk, hot chocolate mix, and crushed ice into a blender. Blend until smooth.
THIRD STEP: Pour into two chilled glasses. Top with whipped topping. Sprinkle with miniature chocolate chips.
Cooking Tips
Almond milk can also be used if preferred. Simply substitute the chocolate milk for 1 cup dark chocolate almond milk and reduce to one packet hot chocolate mix instead of two.
This recipe is quite chocolatey. If it seems like too much, reduce the packets to just one.
If you’re using a canister of hot chocolate mix rather than a packet, measure out 2 ½ tbsp per packet called for.
Storing this Recipe
Storing this beverage is not recommended as the texture would change if placed in a freezer to save. However, if you do mix up more than you can consume, thaw, and reblend to revive.
