Ingredients
What you'll need to make this blue curaco and rum drink:
- 2 to 3 cups of ice cubes (or enough to fill the glass)
- 1 ounce of blue curacao liqueur
- 2 ounces of Malibu coconut rum
- 2 ounces of vodka
- Juice of ½ fresh lime (about 1 tablespoon)
- 12-ounce can of 7-Up or lemon-lime soda
- Swedish fish jelly candies for garnish
- Lemon and lime slices for garnish (optional)
- Large glass beads or marbles for the bottom of the goblet, washed and sterilized (optional)
Pro Tip
Swedish fish candies tend to settle at the bottom of the bowl, but if you want them floating around, there are a few tricks! Glass beads or vase fillers are great for giving these candies a little boost so they appear to swim. Alternatively, clear rock candy can serve the same purpose. Another fun option is using a box of Nerds candy for a colorful effect, though be aware they might color the water and dissolve quickly.
If opting for non-edible decorations like beads, make sure to thoroughly clean and sterilize them first to ensure they're safe to add to your drink. Also, it's important to use larger marbles or beads to prevent them from being a choking hazard or getting stuck in a straw.
Substitutions and Additions
These easy substitutions and additions can easily be swapped out while still maintaining the deliciousness of this easy to make cocktail!
PINEAPPLE JUICE: A delicious twist to your Fish Bowl Drink! Adding about 2 ounces works perfectly.
Color Note: Keep in mind, pineapple juice will give a greener hue and a slightly murky look to your drink.
How to Make
Start by gathering all your ingredients for the Fish Bowl Drink. Follow our easy step-by-step guide complete with pictures. Don't worry—we’ve sprinkled in Pro Tips throughout to help answer any questions and make sure your drink turns out perfectly!
Pro Tip
We use large drink goblets for our "fish bowl" drinks, each holding 1.3 liters. With a layer of ice and some glass beads at the bottom, these glasses are the perfect vessel for our vibrant drink.
For smaller glasses, simply reduce the amounts of blue curaçao, coconut rum, vodka, and lime juice by half. Combine these ingredients and pour into your chosen glass, then top off with soda to fill it up. This adjustment ensures the drink maintains a standard alcohol content. In comparison, our larger goblet servings are equivalent to about two standard drinks.
FIRST STEP: Fill the goblet with ice and any beads/marbles you are using (see Pro Tip).
Place two or three Swedish fish candies to rest on top of the beads along the sides of the glass.
SECOND STEP: In a cocktail shaker, combine blue curacao, coconut rum, vodka, and lime juice and stir or shake to combine.
THIRD STEP: Pour the liquor mixture over the ice. Top with 7Up or lemon-lime soda to fill the goblet.
FOURTH STEP: Garnish with lemon slices and lime slices.
FIFTH STEP: Serve with fun drink umbrellas and straws.
Pro Tip
Adjusting Glass Size: For smaller glasses, reduce the ingredients proportionally to maintain flavor without overpowering.

Fish Bowl Drink
Ingredients
- 2 to 3 cups ice cubes (or enough to fill glass)
- 1 ounce blue curacao
- 2 ounces Malibu coconut rum
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 tbsp fresh lime juice
- 12 ounces 7-up or lemon-lime soda
- sweedish fish candies (for garnish)
- lemon and lime slices (for optional garnish)
- large glass beads or marbles for the bottom of the goblet (washed and sterilized)
DIRECTIONS
- Fill the goblet with 2 to 3 cups ice cubes and large glass beads or marbles for the bottom of the goblet you are using (see notes). Place two or three sweedish fish candies to rest on top of the beads along the sides of the glass.
- In a shaker, combine 1 ounce blue curacao, 2 ounces Malibu coconut rum, 2 ounces vodka, and 1 tbsp fresh lime juice and stir or shake to combine.
- Pour the liquor mixture over the ice. Top with 12 ounces 7-up or lemon-lime soda to fill the goblet.
- Garnish with lemon and lime slices.
- Serve with fun drink umbrellas and straws.
Notes
- The Swedish fish candy will sink to the bottom of the bowl. If you’d like them to appear to be swimming around the bowl, you have a couple of options. We used glass beads/vase filler. These work well to create a little lift on the bottom of the glass for the fish to rest on. You could also use clear rock candy, or some people pour a box of Nerds candy into the bottom of the fishbowl, though this may bleed the color and dissolve pretty quickly. If you use non-edible filler, thoroughly sterilize and wash/rinse before adding it to the drink. Also, be sure you are using larger marbles/beads, so they do not get sucked up in the straw or create a choking hazard.
- Our “fish bowl” glasses were large drink goblets with a 1.3-liter capacity. After filling it with ice and some glass beads along the bottom, this drink filled the glass perfectly. To use a smaller glass, I recommend halving the blue curacao, coconut rum, vodka, and lime juice. Mix those together and pour into your serving glass, then top with soda to fill the glass. This will make a pretty standard drink as far as alcohol content goes. Our extra large drink would be considered “two drinks” worth with regard to alcohol content.
- This recipe makes one fish bowl alcoholic drink. It can easily be doubled or tripled to share with friends.
