  • Chicken breasts - boneless, skinless
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Butter
  • Sesame Oil
  • Onion
  • Garlic - minced
  • Honey
  • Chili sauce
  • Soy Sauce
  • Green onions - chopped, for garnish
  • Sesame Seeds - chopped, for garnish
  • Rice - cooked

Good meals often start with garlic and butter, and this dish is no exception. A delectable sauce of honey, chili sauce, and soy sauce reduced to the perfect thickness coats each piece of chicken.

Sesame oil can have a strong flavor, so if you don’t have sesame oil, or don’t want to use sesame oil,  you could use olive oil instead.  If you prefer you could also use avocado oil or sunflower oil.

Honey garlic chicken tastes delicious over any kind of rice including white or jasmine rice. Cut up broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, carrots, or peas make enticing additions to your dish.

How to Make Honey Garlic Chicken

FIRST STEP: Sprinkle the chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

SECOND STEP: In a large skillet, over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add half of the chicken and cook until it begins to turn golden brown on all sides, but not fully cooked through. Remove chicken from the pan onto a plate lined with a paper towel and keep warm. Drain the skillet. Using the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter, repeat these steps for the remaining chicken.

SIXTH STEP: Return the chicken to the pan, stirring to coat the chicken with the sauce, and simmer for 7-12 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked through.

SEVENTH STEP: Serve the chicken over rice. Sprinkle the chicken with the chopped green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.

What if I don’t have sesame oil?

Substitute olive oil for sesame oil. You can even use avocado oil or sunflower oil.

What type of rice should I use?

Any type of rice would taste great with this recipe; we like jasmine rice, but any type of white or brown rice (or even cauliflower) would do.

Do I have to use chicken breasts?

While the recipe calls for chicken breasts, thighs or tenderloins would work as well.

How to Store Honey Garlic Chicken

IN THE FRIDGE: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 to 5 days.

IN THE FREEZER: Honey garlic chicken makes a great freezer meal. Make a double batch, or store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge.
